Steven Morris
Theatre Arlington

On June 8, 2018, Morris, retired theatre director of 27 years at Arlington’s Lamar High School, joined Theatre Arlington as Executive Producer. Morris, who earned his B.A. in Communications from University of Texas at Arlington, an M.A. in Theatre from the University of Houston and is also the namesake of the Steven D. Morris Auditorium at Lamar, has brought his own unique talents and gifts to Theatre Arlington. He is, of course, no stranger to the local theater scene, having been associated with Theatre Arlington in one way or another since 1977. At 16, he began ushering shows at the Theatre so he could see the productions for free and earn Thespian points for school. In 1981, he auditioned and was cast as Hero in his first show at Theatre Arlington, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum in the old Division Street church building. He enjoyed it so much, he kept coming back. In 1984, he became the Theatre’s first Director of Children’s Theater,” co-writing original musicals with his friend, Don Powers, because he was disappointed by the lack of quality material for youth programming. In fact, one of his early creations, Winnie the Pooh, is a part of our Main Street stage during the 2019-2020 season, entertaining a new generation of theatergoers. Morris, who has now directed, acted in or written more than 60 shows at Theatre Arlington, is thrilled about his new chapter, or rather Act, at the Theatre. “I have loved Theatre Arlington for over 40 years, and I am honored to be able to serve in this capacity,” says Morris. “I am thrilled to work with this wonderful Board of Directors, the amazing theatre guild and the incredible staff to continue to build a superior quality theatre and educational programing for our community.” Morris is also very active with his church Unity of Arlington and enjoys his volunteer work with Samaritan House. He is blessed by great love in his life from his family, friends and his canine companions Elvis and Reba.
