John is active in the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA), and is the President of the AFA Sam Johnson (Dallas) Chapter and the Chair of AFA’s national Recruiting Task Force, designed to leverage the national reach of AFA to assist the Air Force Recruiting Service. He is also the Vice President of the National Defense Briefing Series and serves on numerous boards and councils. He is a resident of McKinney, TX and he and his wife, Marky, have three children and five grandchildren and are members of the First United Methodist Church of McKinney.

Stacy's Soliloquy A new Rotary year, a new school year, and a new year to find opportunities to get involved!
Many of us have kids, spouses, or family members who will start their new school year this week. What an opportunity and privilege that will be! Some will advance up to a new school level, some will be in the same neighborhoods, and some will enjoy the familiarity of old friends and known teachers. Learning is a life-long quest that we should all strive to keep on the path – it is just not that simple for many. In Arlington, there will be some students this year that are wondering if they will get to eat lunch, while other kids eat well daily. There will be kids that are afraid to come home to an empty house with no adults to greet them. Food insecurity and adult supervision are a reality for many households in our city. Fortunately, this is an area that Rotary encourages involvement in each of our communities. And our Club has stepped up to the challenge! This Saturday, several of our Rotarians gathered to paint, dust, scrub, and deposit staple items for Nehemiah Builds after school care. This is a safe space for Elementary and Junior High grade-level who come to do homework, have a meal, be mentored, and get involved in sports before parents get home from work.
This Wednesday, volunteers from our Club will meet up at Webb Elementary to pass out pencils and treats to all students starting back to school that morning. Several Rotarians attended the City’s Back to School Fair at AT&T Stadium and passed out backpacks, directed parents, and assisted in the services offered to 100’s of families needing help getting their kiddos back to school.
This is a direct result of our members being out in the community finding and addressing real problems with real solutions! I want to express my gratitude for the way you all step up and say YES to help make our community better. Let’s continue to find ways to not only make a Lasting Impact in our Community, but to be “community” to each other.
Also, take time to show kindness this and every week. We will all meet people that need more kindness. Thank you for being people of action that make a difference!
